Definition
Reading: Bodai Daruma / Reading (ZH): Pútídámó
Bodhidharma is the founder of the Zen sect. His teaching of Zen did not follow the words of Buddhist scriptures. For this reason, many people criticized him. He thought that the Vimalakirti Sutra and the Lankavatara Sutra were important. He practiced Prajna and Yuishin (Mind-only) very hard.
Q&A
- Q: Why did Bodhidharma take the position of Yuishin (Mind-only) instead of the position that the outside world is real?
- A: Because he thought that our "pain" and "lost mind" come from our "mind." He did not think that things outside of us make them.
