雪竇重顕とは、北宋時代の禅僧。
出身と俗姓： 遂寧府（四川省潼川府）の人。俗姓は李氏。
出家と修行： 出家して具足戒を受けた後、南方に遊方し、まず智門光祚のもとに参じた。
悟りの経緯： 智門のもとで、「一念も起こさない（不起一念）とき、どうして過ちがありましょうか」と問うた。智門に近くへ呼び寄せられ、歩み寄ると即座に払子（ほっす）で口を打たれた。重顯が口を開こうとすると重ねて打たれ、この打擲のもとで豁然（かつぜん）として大悟した。
活動拠点： 翠峰（翠峰山）、明州の雪竇山資聖寺（現在の浙江省寧波府）。
主な教え：優れた詩文・文章力を持ち、のちに名著『碧厳録』の底本となった『頌古』（本則と頌）を撰述した。
遷化（死去）： 皇佑4年（1052年）6月10日に示滅した。享年 73歳。
諡号： 明覚大師（みょうかくだいし））(續傳燈録 巻二)(禪林僧寶傳 卷第十一)。。

Xuedou Chongxian (雪竇重顕) is a Zen monk of the Northern Song dynasty.
Birthplace and Original Family Name: A person from Suining Prefecture (Tongchuan Prefecture, Sichuan Province). His original family name was Li.
Training History: After becoming a monk and receiving the full precepts, he traveled to the south and first studied under Zhimen Guangzuo (智門光祚).
Process of Enlightenment: Under Zhimen, Xuedou asked: “When not a single thought arises, how can there be any fault?” Zhimen called him closer. When Xuedou stepped forward, Zhimen immediately struck his mouth with a fly whisk (hossu). As Xuedou opened his mouth to speak, Zhimen struck him again. Under these blows, Xuedou attained great enlightenment in a flash of clarity.
Base of Activity: Cuifeng (Mount Cuifeng) and Zhisheng Temple on Mount Xuedou in Mingzhou (present-day Ningbo, Zhejiang Province).
Main Teaching: Possessing outstanding poetic and literary talent, he compiled the main cases and verses, which later became the foundational text for the famous Zen classic Hekiganroku (『碧巌録』).
Death: Passed away on June 10 in 1052. Age at death: 73.
Posthumous Title: 明覚大師 (Great Master of Luminous Awakening)(續傳燈録 巻二)(禪林僧寶傳 卷第十一).
