Q: なぜ、地蔵桂琛は言葉による議論や理屈を嫌ったのですか？

A: なぜならば、頭の中の議論に溺れるよりも、目の前の現実や日々の実践の中にこそ、真の仏道があると考えたからです。



当時の若い修行僧たちは、各地を巡って「仏法とは何か」といった熱い議論を交わすことを重視していました。しかし地蔵桂琛は、どれだけ立派な議論をしても、それが日々の生活から離れていては意味がないと見抜いていました。そのため、議論を誇る修行僧に対して「ここでは田を耕し、米をついて食べている」と返し、日常の尊さを突きつけました。

Young training monks at that time valued traveling to various places to exchange passionate discussions about questions like "What is Buddhism?" However, Dizang Guichen saw through this, knowing that no matter how grand a discussion was, it was meaningless if it was separated from daily life. Therefore, to a monk who was proud of such discussions, he replied, "Here, we plow the fields, make rice, and eat it," confronting him with the preciousness of everyday life.
